| The second Prince Albert art festival is scheduled for 18-24 September. This year we plan to take more art out of the gallery into public spaces where local people gather. There we will welcome visitors and showcase our creativity. |

| In 2012, the works (more than 1000) of over 100 artists went on show at 17 venues in Prince Albert. Visitors and our local community supported exhibitions, workshops, talks and films about art. |

| PArt2014 will enhance local exposure to art, provide a unique outlet for artists to show their works and contribute to our small-town economy. More than just a group of curated shows, the festival committee is dedicated to fostering collaboration. PArt14 will encourage experiment: we have invited artists to work in Prince Albert’s public spaces - to share both their thinking and art-making with us, a Karoo community. |

| “Home” for us is a rural town with limited prospects for young people. And twenty years into our democracy, few have the confidence to engage socially, or to participate as citizens of a new South Africa. |

| We aim to switch people onto art - we can introduce new skills and ways of solving problems. We can change mindsets and nurture an understanding of creative thinking and the value of art in communities like our own. |

| We live in a remote town but we are linked to and we share all the diverse challenges of a bigger centre: the municipality is administering the district; young people are learning in schools; and artwork is on show seven days a week in a number of galleries... and once every two years we have the opportunity to invite everyone in - to the places where art is made and viewed. |

| We don’t believe that art is the privilege of city people, or the elite moneyed class. During PArt2014 we invite artists, residents and visitors to join us. |

Die tweede Prince Albert Kunsfees vind plaas van
18-24 September 2014 – en die Prince Albert Kunsgallery gaan daarop fokus om kuns uit die gallery te neem en dit in openbare plekke uit te stal – plekke waar inwoners saamkom Hiér gaan besoekers verwelkom word en hiér gaan ons ons kreatiwiteit ten toon stel. |

| Ons wil graag met ons Kunsfees kulturele interaksie bewerkstellig, sodat kunstenaars en hul gehore brûe oor sosiale afgronde sal kan bou.
Tydens PArt 2012 (ons eerste kunsfees) is sowat 1,000 werke van meer as 100 kunstenaars uitgestal in 17 lokale in Prince Albert. Ons gemeenskap en besoekers het die uitstallings, werkswinkels, praatjies en kunsfilms goed ondersteun.

| PArt 2014 sal klem lê op plaaslike kuns en ons kunstenaars en sal ‘n unieke geleentheid kry om hul werk bekend te stel en te verkoop. Ons komitee is ‘n toegewyde groep mense wat gaan konsentreer op samewerking en ons gaan veral eksperimentele werk aanmoedig. Ons het kunstenaars genooi om in Prince Albert se openbare plekke te kom werk; om hul kreatiewe gedagtes oor die “maak” van kuns met ons Karoo-gemeeenskap te kom deel. |

| Ons weet ons bly in ‘n dorpie met reuse vlakke van werkloosheid en baie beperkte geleenthede vir jongmense. Ons besef ook dat min jongmense vandag, ná 20 jaar van demokrasie, die vrymoedigheid het om sosiaal te meng of gemaklik in te pas as deelnemende burgers van ons land.
Kunstenaars reis deur hul werk na hul “tuiste” – so vind hulle hul plek in hul familie, in die gemeenskap, in die wêreld…

| Al woon ons in ‘n afgeleë dorpie, is ons verbind aan, en deel ons, die talle uitdagings van groter plekke: ons munisipaliteit administreer die distrik, ons leerders sit op skoolbanke, en kunswerke is sewe dae van die week te sien in ‘n hele paar gallerye… |

| Ons aanvaar nie dat kuns die voorreg van ryk stedelinge is nie – daarom nooi ons tydens PArt 2014 ons kunstenaars, inwoners en besoekers om hier by ons te kom aansluit vir ‘n egte kunsbelewenis. |
